Wash the floors, wax them with paste wax.

Yeah.

And then we'd put wool socks on and shine em up with the wool socks.

Yeah, it was easy, more fun then using, using the polisher.

Slid around the house!

It was more fun than using the polisher!

I remember when Mom and Dad got a three-way combination TV, remember that?

Yeah.

And it had doors on it, and the TV was on one end and the stereo and the record player pulled out. Oh man, we thought we had the world by the tail.

Mhmm.

Well, they were the latest thing and...

Ooo yeah.

Oh yeah, and Trixy used to go and sleep under there in the corner, eh and well, we had done our housework that Friday night, we used to do our housework on Friday night, before Mom would come home from work, and we had polished the floor and it was all nice and shiny and slippery and Trixy, Trixy couldn't get any traction, she'd fall all over the place.

It was sliding all over.

If I had to relive my life, I'd want that life again. I wouldn't want the "city life", you know what I mean?

You wouldn't give that up?

No, no because it was a great life.

Would you say that you feel spiritually connected to the prairie or to the land?

Oh, well I don't know if that's because it's born into us, because of the Métis part, because we're originally, you know we've got the…but uh, like you say, we grew up eating wild meat, even though we were in the city, but we also had the domesticated meats too. Food. So I still like eating venison, I still like eating rabbit…

See I don't.

I still like eating ducks, I eat ducks and I eat fish, wild fish. Doesn't matter but you know I, I still like to eat that. I don't think that I'd like a steady diet of it. But I enjoy eating it once and a while too.

Yeah, she does. I don't. The only thing I eat is pickerel. But I mean pickerel is fantastic, but to go to duck and rabbit and deer meat, no. No, I'm away from that myself now.

No, well I still like that like to eat that once in a while. Like I say, I wouldn't want to eat it all the time, but uh, I do enjoy the odd meal of it. You know, so…

What I'd want, what I'd love to do one day is have a big corn roast…

Our happiest time

...my husband asked me one time, when I took him there for the first time and I said this is where we used to live, he says "ah, you look so happy to be back here", and I said "Well you know what? This is our happiest time."

It was peaceful. It was peaceful

We moved to the city and you start living the city life and it was whole different, I mean yeah, the conveniences were better, but you know what? We drifted a little bit apart as a family. You know friends were different, and then we started working and you know, it was different. It wasn't that close knit we had when we were on the prairie.
