Brannen, Asa Mervin F64818. Private. Algonquin Regiment. Royal Canadian Infantry Corps. 1920 to 1944.
Asa Brannen was employed as a "boner" by FW Nickerson Fish Company at the time of his enlistment in Yarmouth on 15 June 1942. Trained in Halifax, North Bay and Aldershot before embarking from Halifax on the 2 March 1943. On arriving overseas with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders, he met two of his brothers, Joseph and Fred, who had been there since December 1939. Asa arrived in France on 22 July 1942. He received wounds to his chest and abdomen on 18 September and died the next day. Buried at Adegem Canadian War Cemetery, Grave 11, Row B, Plot 8, Belgium.
