The Nelson batholith was a massive intrusion of molten magma from a great depth that occurred approximately 164 million years ago. Over time the magma cooled slowly and crystallized into a pinkish coarse-grained rock called grandodiorite, a type of granite. Erosion has exposed parts of the batholith.8
