In the decades after World War II, special efforts were made by the people of Transcona to memorialize the service and sacrifice given by young men and women. The duty of Remembrance was taken on by the Transcona War Memorial Committee, local churches and schools, Royal Canadian Legion - Transcona Branch # 7, Town/City of Transcona (later the City of Winnipeg), local businesses and the CNR Transcona Shops.

On Armistice Day, the whole town would listen for the sound of the "Shop Whistle" that the Canadian National Railway would blow to signal two minutes of silence in the Transcona Shops.

"But on November the 11th, Armistice Day, it would always blow at 11 o'clock and if November 11th fell on a working day, then we were to stop work and silence would prevail in the Shops. In what would be otherwise be very, very noisy environment and all of a sudden it was silent then at two minutes past 11 it would blow again so we would go about our work." [Jim Potter, former Supervisor, Car Department].

In 1954, the Cenotaph was moved from the intersection of Regent and Oxford to its present location in "Park Circle", (also known as "Town Park", "Circle Park" and "Central Park Circle"). On September 25, 1998, the park was given a new name to reflect its importance, history, and meaning to the community and was officially dedicated as "Memorial Park Circle".
