In 1944, the number of Farm Service Camps peaked with fifty-four supervised camps across Ontario employing 4,265 students. The majority of the students were female with 2,025 living at the camps and an additional 670 living in farm homes.

With a decline in the number of students enrolling in the farm service programme along with an increase in European farm workers and greater availability of casual workers, the Ontario Department of Agriculture abolished this programme in April 1953.
