Yet another line in New Brunswick that from the beginning seemingly had no hope of turning a profit was the York and Carleton Railway Company. Incorporated in 1887 the line was to be built from Cross Creek on the Canada Eastern Railway line to Foreston, which is located between Juniper and Bristol. Construction did not begin until 1900 when private funds and government subsidies were secured. The first section of track, 5.4 miles long, from Cross Creek to Stanley was opened the following year, but it would be another eight years before five more miles to Ryans Creek would be laid. That turned out to be the terminus of the line, since the construction money was all spent. The in debt line operated until 1918 when it was purchased by the Dominion of Canada for $18,000 and was operated by the Intercolonial Railway before being turned over to Canadian National. Canadian National operated trains on the spur line until the line was completely abandoned in 1986.
