Incorporated in 1885 the Tobique Valley Railway Company was created to build a 28 mile long line from Plaster Rock to connect with the New Brunswick Railway line at Perth Junction. The line was built to tap into the gypsum deposits around Plaster Rock. By 1891 only 14 miles of track were completed due to difficult terrain which caused construction costs to soar. The line was completed in 1893 and opened a year later. That same year Canadian Pacific leased the track for 99 years. Canadian Pacific discontinued service on the line in 1987 after spring flooding destroyed a bridge between Perth and Andover. The line was officially abandoned by 1991.
