TRANSCRIPT

Terrance William Leopky on the number of inmates housed at the jail.
Question - 'Now we've already touched on this, but can you tell me, on average, what the maximum number or average number of people in the jail at one time as inmates?'
Answer - 'Well, like I said there, I think our maximum at the end was supposed to be 28, very seldom went below 15. Back when we were just two of us there would be anywhere....another officer and I worked there one night with 67. They were sleeping in the halls.'
Question -'Is that right...not locked in a cell at all?'
Answer - 'Nope...people have a great misconception of the Fredericton jail as a drunk tank; actually it was a maximum institution.'
