TRANSCRIPT

Stuart: Miss Montgomery was the art teacher at PCVS and she recommended me to Brinton Carpet where I started an apprenticeship as a carpet designer. I was three years into my apprenticeship when I joined up. Gale: So you were actually designing carpet? Stuart: No, I was…I hadn't got that far. I used to mix the paints, you know, that's the first job you do is mix the paints for the other designers. And I had started on my first design just before I left there in 1940.
