Interview with Lew Puddicombe of Puddicombe Farms - Describes the Change Over Time and Mechanization of the Farm

Well we went from having about fifty people (working) around here down to about having, let's say, twelve or fifteen. Everything's mechanized. We pick cherries with a mechanical harvester. We picked our grapes with mechanical harvesters so therefore a cherry harvester would pick as many cherries in one day as eighty people would. Same thing with the grape harvesters: three people, three men could harvest one hundred ton a day if we had the...we have had at our best time, we did harvest on several occasions one hundred ton of grapes in one day, with three people whereas to do that, we would have quite near ninety people.
