TRANSCRIPT

Excerpt of an interview with Henry Vokey - Supplies for building Boats

Hazel: Where did the supplies come from to build the boats?

Henry: What do you mean the supplies? Like the hardware and the fasteners?

Hazel: I guess so I don't know anything about boats.

Henry: No, no.

Bonnie: Well the lumber, did you buy the lumber?

Henry: Oh the lumber.

Bonnie: Or did you do the lumber yourself?

Henry: Well most of the lumber, from the smaller boats was cut in here and then I had lumber come in from New Brunswick.

Hazel: Oh ok. So did you order some supplies?

Henry: Yeah.

Hazel: Oh ok. Do you know, can you remember where you ordered them from?

Henry: Well ahh the most, like the hardware stuff that come from St. John's.

Hazel: Ok. And you cut your own timber did yeah?

Henry: Yeah. Some of the hardware come from Nova Scotia like ahh the shafting and the engine and the motors and stuff like that that come from Nova Scotia.

Hazel: Did you have your own mill to saw the logs?

Henry: Yeah.

Hazel: Where was that to?

Henry: Ahh well in both places. Had my own mill up the bay in Little Harbour and I had me own mill down here because I was operating on two saw mill licenses at that time after I moved down I had one license for out here, and I still had one license for into ocean pond.
