The Art of Wooden Boat Building - A Dying Skill - The Vokey Family

Shipbuilding as an industry and year round employer has sadly come to an end in Trinity with the closure of the two shipyards in 2004-2005. The long time trade associated with Trinity since the late 1700s is now only practiced by a few, most of them descendants of the Vokey family, as a pastime. The skill of working with wood to build boats is still retained by some but is a dying method of work therefore the Trinity Historical Society and the Wooden Boat Building Museum of Newfoundland and Labrador are documenting the construction of the schooner by Henry Vokey.
