Grand Bend - Our Stories, Our Voice

Grandmother Mackay enjoyed the day because some of her old farm friends and relatives from Blanshard Township always paid her a visit. Father was often quietly amused by some of the types who called. One old man with a drooping moustache was recalling old times and old friends when grandma interrupted to say: "John, I know it's stupid of me, but I can't seem to remember your first wife's name. Who was she?" Whereupon old John scratched his head, looked foolish and embarrassed, but could only reply: "'Well, now, Mary, I should know that ...." But to save his life he could not remember who she was; her very name was lost in the dark backward and abysm of time! Father had to duck around the corner to have a good laugh out by the pump.
