Growing Up In Peterborough: A Century of Stories

TRANSCRIPT

Barb: Food, I started to think of it and I thought of all the differences in the food. The things that we didn't ever know existed you know, growing up in those days. We never had pasta, not much. Although mother did most of her shopping from Anthony's who had a lot of pasta I would assume in the store, but it was mostly fish and fruit and vegetables. And there were things delivered to your door because, you know there was horse delivery. I do remember mother used to buy rolls of tickets you know for bread and things. So we'd hook those every once and a while because at recess, Queen Mary often the bread man came by at recess and we'd buy the little packages of two chocolate cupcakes with the bread tickets. You didn't ever buy whipped cream because you took the cream off the top with the bottles with the necks on them, you'd put that spoon in and we used to have desert twice a day and a lot of whipped cream.
