TRANSCRIPT

This workshop was offered in my hometown and I applied and was accepted. The artistic workshop that's promoted by Makivik Corporation every year offered it for the first time on wall hangings. I always thought about it before but I never had time or effort to do it but since it was offered I just took it. I like working with felts, that has become my favourite. Although I've also tried to start on cotton before and never finished, but the felts I can't seem to let go. My inspiration is my culture and the nature. I love our traditional clothing and I love nature and animals, they inspire me a lot. That's the reason I concentrate on that. I do wall hangings of mostly women of the 1970s wearing an amauti carrying a baby on the back. I'm also trying to do kamiks. I also did a sealskin wallhanging. I think we have a great future because there are so many artists here and learning these skills we have and getting more experience and education I think we'll be able to create something.
