Inukjuak Art History

TRANSCRIPT

I am inspired to carve after returning from quarrying. When I have good soapstone to work with, and when I cannot sleep, I begin to think about what I am going to carve. I often carve a woman with her child on her back. Because I have been a carver for a long time, I also enjoy carving different scenes from life. My carvings always tell a story, because that is how I was taught to carve. The co-op encourages quality work. If people listen to the co-op's advice, then I believe the future looks bright for Inukjuak carvers.
