Fans are good, but not everyone has them. It is simply a way of extending our season on either end of it. And sometimes in the winter when it is really, really cold like this you want to mix the air up and see if you can get even warmer air for the grapes, because grapes, especially some varietals, merlot in particular, the vine stock splits and in very, very cold weather it still becomes exposed to bacteria and it ultimately if it is a young vine, it can obviously die, and so it is very fragile that way.
