Interview with Lois E. Merritt, Merritt Bros. Basket Factory - Lois describes Farmerettes and the Merritt Farm

And during the war we had, what was it, thirty Farmerettes? I used to go down and pick them up and they bunked in the school gymnasium (And you worked on the farms as well in the summertime?) Well I was at college at the time (So you would not have been a Farmerette? The Farmerettes were the city girls?) Yes they were city girls and I used to go up in the morning and pick them up and take them back at night, and I don't know, but we had twenty or thirty of them (What did the Merritt farm produce at that time?) Cherries, peaches, grapes, pears, pretty well everything but no apples, we didn't have apples but we had pretty well everything else. (Did you chum about with the Farmerettes?) Oh yes, we had a great time, they were great fun.
