Interview with Mrs. Elizabeth Donaldson Smith, WWII Farmerette- Became a Farmerette to Receive Exception from her Matriculation Exam
I became a Farmerette because it was a lazy way out. I was definitely a city slicker and the spectre of having to write matriculation exams was quite something. And I had taken Latin and I wasn't a good Latin student, and I thought I could lose a place in university because I don't come up to par writing the exams. Then I heard if you were a Farmerette and your marks were adequate, not terrific but adequate before you enrolled, that you would be given your subject... so, aha! Good idea!
