Interview with Jean Peterson, Nee Nelles - Jean Describes the Packing House Located on the Nelles Family Farm

Downstairs where the packing house was there were shelves all around, very narrow shelves, maybe fifteen inches or something like that and they were made specifically for the baskets to go on. And they would be all around the three walls of the packing house and there was a door at the back so the peaches would come in from the field, in the back door. When I was younger I can remember it used to be with the dray and horses. And then when I got older, I'm not sure when it changed over I'm afraid it was the same dray, probably, but with a tractor. So the back shelves were for stuff that hadn't been packed yet and the other shelves were for things that had been packed and were ready to send out.
