TRANSCRIPT

James- "I went to school first and you know where it was too?"
Desmond Canning - "Where was it too?"
James - "Right here! Right here Uncle Henry Combden lived here in a board house here not right here on the back towards the driveway, well the driveway now. And he lived here years before and then he went back to his own place on Barr'd Islands. He was married to my Aunt, my real Aunt, Mom's Sister."
Desmond Canning - "Okay."
James - "And in the fall come along the middle of September they get a teacher. There was about half a dozen now boy's and girl's, it might be half a dozen go to school and I lived right there where Art's house is too now on the flat there and I was five year old. I went to school here some days and Pearce's mother teached school, Violet.
Desmond Canning - "So it wasn't yesterday. Did she have any education? Or ah … What did she have? You know?"
James- "Well..."
Desmond- "She had enough to teach?"
James- "Oh yeah in the..them times see b'y you didn't want very much education to teach cause only a few. It was me, and Baxter four still left now of us there was Stella, she's dead, lived up here with her grandparents. "
