Paul Kane's Cobourg 1833-1834

Wilson Conger had persuaded his brother to leave the town of York and move to the growing town of Cobourg. It was Wilson's brother's move that brought young Paul Kane to Cobourg. Wilson, along with his wife moved north to Peterborough where he was later elected mayor. This portrait is one of Paul's earliest attempts at portraiture in Cobourg.
