1824-25, seven years before Kane's arrival were important years to the growth and character of Cobourg. A powerful personality in the person of George Strange Boulton moved to Cobourg from Port Hope in 1824. He was a young Barrister and he had just received the appointment of Registrar of deeds for Northumberland County.

The Clench brothers arrived in Cobourg in 1825. They were excellent tradesmen in fine cabinet work.

Another dynamic person, Henry Ruttan, the newly appointed Sheriff for the district moved to Cobourg from Grafton and purchased land in 1828.
