TRANSCRIPT

Interview with Danny Koeppen

DK:
"The mill's on fire! I can see if from here I know because the station was blown up. You could really see the mill's on fire. The mill was on fire! But why are the guys still working? Can't figure it out. The fire truck is right there, fighting it. We just couldn't figure it out, couldn't fit it together.
So we walk over to the mill, we walk over the tracks to the mill and the guys are all out there with their machinery but it wasn't the mill that was on fire, it was the mill on the other side, McNair was on fire, and it was so big, the fire was so big, and it was so close by, to look at the mill, we were absolutely convinced the mill was on fire. The fire department's there because they were practicing, it was a Wednesday night. So he got called by them because he new the train was halfway ... he would direct people and cars, explain... and he knew there were two cars in there and he got on the wire and sent a note to Coquitlam, you know, to tell these guys to get the cars off. As it turned out the mill burned down completely, except a few sheds left, but no function. We were here at that particular time. We couldn't believe it. Still, to this day, I cannot... I saw the mill, the Flavelle Cedar Mill, burning down with my own eyes. But really it was the one on the other side. It was right behind it, a little lower.

Interviewer
