Allan Ottley remembered the store from when he was a boy in the 1920's:

"I can remember seeing inside the store great grass sacks of rice, pats of preserved ginger and other interesting packed goods on the shelves. As I passed the door on my way to school, there was always an aroma that stirred my mind to far places. We were able to buy fireworks from the Wong store to celebrate special occasions."
