Interview with Debbie Zimmerman, Grape Growers of Ontario - Describes the Impact on Local Growers After the Cadbury Schweppes Closure
So the Ontario government assisted the juice grape growers by giving them money to pull these grapes out, and hopefully find a new market or a new home for a different type of product. We are not seeing very much of that happening. And so the focal point of that loss of market was the closure of the Cadbury Schweppes plant in St. Catharines. And that was sort of the last straw for these growers, making very little money on juice grapes. The point that is interesting is that it had been the backbone of this industry for many, many years.
