Interview with Bob Arkell of Arkell Foods - Bob Describes That the Workers Had Duties, Not Positions
We really didn't call them positions, at that time, you had a duty. You had a duty to do your work that you were asked to do. You had a head of the warehouse, you had floor ladies that walked the floors, you had yard people who???, receivers who worked out in the yard and you had tow motor operators, and then men who stoked the furnaces, the boiler men. They were very important because if the boilers weren't going you weren't going.
