Long a feature of waterfront communities across the country, paper mills in Canada are a dying breed. In Sault Ste. Marie, however, the former St. Mary’s Paper plant has been rejuvenated and redeveloped for the 21st century.
In addition to exploring the plant’s Romanesque-inspired buildings, this virtual exhibit examines a century of manufacturing heritage through interviews with St. Mary’s Paper workers, documentation of the redevelopment process, and profiles of the creative enterprises now moving into the repurposed facility.
