From swampy lakeshore to picturesque harbour, Cobourg’s waterfront has more than two centuries of stories to tell, reflecting its unique take on the development of southern Ontario. As the town grew, it welcomed immigrants, sailboats and steamers. Railways were built, and the harbour expanded to accommodate oil tankers and coal ferries. In the 1980s, it was re-designated for small watercraft. Today, Cobourg’s revitalized and ever-evolving harbour attracts thousands of summer visitors, most of whom are unaware of its storied past. Find out more on the ongoing story in this colourful exhibit.
