Northerners are great sports people. Every sport is represented. Hockey was a natural sport but so was baseball and even the English style of football in the early days. Fitness and activity seemed to be high on the list for many. All sports were fuelled by the intense competitive between New Liskeard, Haileybury, Cobalt and outlying towns. At times, it really got hot. The press loved this of course as it made reading the coverage more interesting.

Outdoor activities are the real heritage of the north country. Hunting and fishing are still important pastimes both for tourists as well as locals. Many people today still have their own ?hunt camps? that they drive out to on many weekends. This interested has helped keep the wilderness lodges popular in modern times.
Interest in classical music, opera and theatre was high in 1910 as it was in the following decades. Large international acts came up to the north to play including the Marx Brothers and other names that became famous in films.
