The sound of the whistle and the sound of steel wheels rolling by brought prosperity to the Boundary region, and meant many things to many people along the line.

For some it meant steady income, like the station agents and their families. For others it meant extra work, like the freight haulers and ice cutters. For the communities along the line it brought access to goods like never before, such as daily mail. The world outside the Boundary had drawn closer.

It meant a new railway station for Midway, and sadly it meant tragedy for the new station agent's family.

The train whistle might bring a friendly wave from the engineer to remote residents along the way and a regular schedule to set their clocks by, or an outing for the townsfolk who came out to watch the passenger train's arrival.
