Nancy Morris

Nancy Morris (nee Lundberg) was born on December 9,1932 in Kirkland Lake. She was the eldest of three girls of Len and Tuni Lundberg. She had two sisters, Anita Lundberg and Carol Fraser. Her father Len was the original "do-it-yourselfer" with supreme confidence in his abilities. Nancy became Len's right hand "man" and he taught her how to handle tools and encouraged her to tackle the zany projects she would come up with. She thanks him to this day.

Nancy attended Queen Elizabeth School and Kirkland Lake Collegiate and Vocational Institute where she became involved in many sports teams. Growing up in Kirkland Lake she was able to enjoy the freedom of being outdoors and spent much time playing in playgrounds, rinks, laneways and snow hills.

Nancy received her teaching qualifications at North Bay Normal School (teachers college). She returned to Kirkland Lake to take up her career. She furthered her career goals by attending Western University and taking Primary Methods courses.

Nancy married Bruce Morris, a young teacher from Brockville, in 1955. They have two children, Brian Morris and Ann Belisle. Nancy did supply teaching and taught sewing at night school for a number of years as she raised her family. At age 35, skiing and painting entered her life and became her passion.

As a family they were frantic to get to the hills and spent many winter holidays skiing.

As an individual, she enrolled in Sheila Langlois oil painting classes at night school. Playing with colour was wonderful and opened a whole new world of exploration which she continues to this day. Since then, Nancy has taken many workshops, met many wonderful artists and has been a part of all Kirkland Lake Art Club exhibitions and most NOAA juried shows as well as other shows.

Nancy has spent the last 45 years fostering the Kirkland Lake Art Club and the Northern Ontario Art Association. Nancy also took an interest in other areas of the Arts and spent 29 years with the Kirkland Lake Arts Council. She has become the "go-to person" for the Arts in Kirkland Lake.

For the past 15 years Nancy has been an active volunteer at the Encore Club doing the seasonal decorating and doing the tables for the monthly dinners. She helps with running the huge yard sale room which is a lot of work but great therapy.

Nancy and Bruce were on the Senior Games Committee for a number of years and have both competed successfully in the provincial and national games.

"As I approach my 80th birthday this year I am slowing down but I still have projects that I hope to tackle," Nancy stated in 2012.

Nancy has garnered inspiration from the following saying by Goethe:

Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it.
Boldness has genius, power and magic in it.
