Arts and Culture

As early as the 1940's and 1950's, an arts scene was beginning to develop in Kirkland Lake. The creation of the Kirkland Lake Arts and Letters Club, and later the Kirkland Lake Art Club, encouraged artists to host workshops and instruct others in painting and other visual arts. The Kirkland Lake Arts Club has continued to support and cultivate the creativity of its members - a few who are featured in this exhibit. In addition to painters, the interesting story of author and journalist Olive MacKay Petersen, as well as Carolyn O'Neil - a local historian with a penchant for woodcarving - are included in this section.
