Education

The ladies found in this section were a part of the education system in several ways. Some were instructors, while others had experience in administrative needs as staff or School Board trustees. What they all shared in common was that they were lifelong learners.

As Margaret Daugherty will tell you in her own words, she was an administrative secretary at Kirkland Lake Collegiate and Vocational Institute (KLCVI) for many years, with fond memories of her colleagues and the students.

Helen Wattie was head of the Home Economics Department at Kirkland Lake Collegiate and Vocational Institute during the 1950's and would later become the Vice Principal.

Mary Nemcsok has applied her volunteer experience and skills gained from the Skating Club and Kirkland Lake Army Cadets squadron to other areas of interest.

Mary O'Connor attended Nursing School in Toronto in the early 1950's, but chose another path for herself. While raising her six children and helping to operate a business with her husband, Mary went on to serve on the Kirkland and District Separate School Board. She would remain with the board for 42 years.

June McRae was the administrative secretary for the Kirkland Lake Board of Education for many years, but she was also involved with the Kirkland Lake Skating Club and judged competitions for 50 years.
