Since the birth of the Placentia West Matmakers in 1979, many, many beautiful mats have been produced and sold around the world. Some of these have a one of a kind design but most are similar in design, with variety in the colours and materials. All designs are produced by the matmakers themselves based on what they see around them. Designs include outport scenes, salt fish drying on a line, whales in a harbour, stages, boats and many, many more. Indoor scenes from days gone by are also included. Mats are usually 11x14 or 14x20, though earlier mats were often larger.
