For one year, starting on January 1, 1902, Charlie kept a record of his travels in a "Penny Diary" that was smaller than his hand. His entries chronicled weather and sea conditions, and described coastlines, ports of call, and his activities on board and ashore. The scribblings require a magnifying glass to read, and even so, are difficult to decipher. In this storyline, we were able to match watercolour renditions from his sketchbooks to selected daily entries.
