The Saint John Jewish Community has produced an impressive list of writers..

Nathan Lipshitz, lived in Saint John in the 1910s and 1920s and returned to the city after retirement. Known primarily as a factory worker and union organizer, he had also been published as a short story writer in the Yiddish press, including The Jewish Eagle.

Nathan Dreskin first worked as a newspaperman in Saint John including writing a column called The Man on the Street which presented short items of human interest. He also served as a member of the Canadian Army as a conducting officer, keeping a watchful eye on war correspondents before continuing his career in journalism and the Public service in Ottawa . He continued to write extended human interest stories for the Ottawa Gazette, Macleans, and others through the 1950s and 1960s on a freelance basis and was head of Information Services for the federal Department of Transport. He was He edited at least one book - Up the Years from One to Six published by National Health and Welfare Canada in 1953.

Lawrence Earl's first foray into reporting led him to found the student newspaper at Saint John High School. As a professional journalist and photographer, he was published in the Montreal Standard, Time, Life, National Geographic, Saturday Evening Post, Macleans, Illustrated, The Star Weekly and John Bull, the last two of which he was also an editor. He worked as a war correspondent in northwestern Europe in 1944 and 1945. Seven of his books, both fiction and nonfiction, were published, some in several languages. Yangtse Incident, was made into a movie that was shown at Cannes. The Battle of Baltinglass, the story of an Irish postmistress, won the Stephen Leacock Medal for Humour in 1953.

Jon Everett began his journalism career at the Saint John newspapers and then moved to Montreal, but now writes for Kol Israel Radio. Others in journalism include Stan Cohen, who was one of the editors of The Montreal Star for a number of years, Joseph Adler who was a travel writer, Louise Adler who wrote for seniors and Ancil Kashetsky who started with movie reviews for the local paper and now writes freelance. Broadcasters include Stan Jacobson, Betty Tobin Levine and Lani Selick, now a producer with CBC.

Dan Elman has self-published two books which he wrote in his youth and brought out of storage to share with a wider audience. His first publication, Enixam, was presented as poetry, the second a novel entitled Centrum set in war-torn and post-war Europe.

Many academic writers have published as well, including Gary Davis who co-authored educational software and has written book chapters and several academic papers. He has also written several articles for newspapers and magazines.
