The Jewish home is the focus of Jewish life. Religious education and celebration were centred in the home. Men were expected to marry and have children and support their families. Jewish women worked hard in the early years of the twentieth century to ensure that their homes were well kept, their children were well provided for and that the meals met the kosher dietary laws. All family members contributed in some way to ensure that the household was maintained - chores inside the home, helping in the family's store, finding paid employment to assist in supporting the family. There are no diaries to record family events, although many memories have been captured through oral interviews and through family photographs.

In the twenty-first century Jewish family life in Saint John has changed - most of the children who grew up in the community have left for opportunities elsewhere. Most of those who are left are the aging parents of those who left. The future of the community may depend on how closely the few young families who remain continue the Jewish heritage left to them by previous generations.
