Travelling north from Callander along Highway 11 we soon reach our next destination, the municipality of Temagami. This town is a prime example of Canada's great Northland, with old growth pine forests and crisp blue water, and is a flourishing fishing and wildlife hotspot.

Temagami is steeped in history. Some of the world's oldest rock has surfaced here, having been scraped and smoothed by centuries of glaciation during the last ice age. Artifacts and stone drawings dating as far back 6000 B.C. have been discovered here, and Grey Owl, the mysterious naturalist who captured the world's imagination back in the 1930s, made the Temagami area his home. Over the centuries, people have been drawn to the area as if by a magnet; it truly is a place of mystical magic.

Nestled in her cabin off Highway 11 just outside of Temagami, On we find Judy Gouin, a prominent figure in Ontario's arts industry. We asked Judy to talk to us briefly about the Northern Ontario region and what it means to be a "Northern Artist."
