The municipality of Callander is located approximately 300 kilometers north of Toronto on the south-eastern shores of Lake Nipissing. Callander boasts sandy beaches, several marinas and a yacht club. The lively sport fishing brings back generations of families who spend their vacations within Callander. You'll also find great golf, fine dining, a number of well known artists and artisans and a huge wildlife marsh teeming with adventure for the nature enthusiast.

Callander also hosts the Country Roads Artisan Studio Tour on a yearly basis. This self-guided tour features artists from the community and allows participants to explore their studios and shops while they conduct demonstrations and answer questions.

The Museum, located in the former home and practice of Dr. Allan Roy Dafoe, world famous country doctor of the Dionne Quintuplets, has been open to the public for over 25 years, and offers a unique experience of the past. Visitors can enjoy a large variety of artifacts on display in this seven-room well maintained heritage building. The museum houses collections from the Municipality of Callander (formerly North Himsworth Township), including records and objects pertaining to Dr. Dafoe, the Dionne Quintuplets, area logging and shipping, Red Cross nursing and much more. The museum is pleased to welcome everyone to the historic community of Callander, Ontario.

The Alex Dufresne Gallery is comfortably housed at the Callander Bay Heritage Museum, where it hosts several exhibitions each year supporting the artistic talents of local and area artists. It is named after Alex Dufresne, a well known barber and collector of fine antiques and artifacts who was the driving force behind the opening of the museum.

The Alex Dufresne Gallery is a public, not-for-profit art gallery that is generously supported by the Municipality of Callander, patrons, and artists alike. Its mission is to promote awareness and appreciation of the visual arts through the operation, development, and growth of the Gallery.

Through the efforts of its volunteers and staff, the Alex Dufresne Gallery achieves its mission by exhibiting local artists residing within a 50km radius of Callander. The Gallery also organizes educational programs to stimulate knowledge and interest in the visual arts.
