The J&B was the second schooner that Henry Vokey built at his shipyard in Trinity. The first being a request of a customer in Cleveland, Ohio. The first schooner was 45 ft in length, the second being 50ft. The boat was finished in 1986 and was launched with the name J&B, standing for Henry's four daughters - Jane, Josephine, Bonnie and Bernice.

The J&B has a juniper hull and the ribs are double sawed. Henry also indicated that the vessel was decked in BC fir, the same wood used in the masts. The cabins are made of solid mahogany and the deck railings are of oak, resting on oak posts which were hand turned by the builder.

The J & B was sold to Robert A. Jenkins in St. John's where he used the vessel for tours for a number of years before selling her to a person in the United States.

The schooner has had a number of honors over the years amongst them including in the summer of 1996 making an appearance in the tall ship floatilla in Louisbourg, Nova Scotia. During their return voyage back to Newfoundland she became "the leader of the pack" as she lead the escort of tall ships into port at St. John's harbour. Another recognition for the J&B was taking part in the tow-out of the Hibernia Oil Platform in May 1997. The video camera crew that recorded the event was being recorded and broadcasted from the J&B.
