The railway tracks were left in place on a portion of the railway and freight trains operated from the Okanagan to the Nicola Valley carrying primarily lumber. Before the tracks were removed a scenic section of the railway through the Myra Canyon was used in the filming of the documentary "The National Dream", Pierre Berton's story of the Canadian Pacific Railway.
There were about ten miles of track left in place from the Trout Creek Bridge to the Faulder stop. An enthusiastic group of local residents had another dream and brought it to fruition. By 1995 the Kettle Valley Steam Railway was on track offering rides and telling the history of "one of the strangest railway ever built."
