The Flynn house was originally built in the 1890's by a man named Patrick Burke. He also lived in the home with his family. Originally the home was situated on Mills Corner in Brigus but it was moved to its present site in 1905. This house was the location of Brigus's only telephone exchange for over twenty years.

The exchange, operated by Mary Flynn was located in the east side of the house and consisted of two rooms, for the wicket and the counter. Another interesting feature of the home is the passageway, leading to the exchange, which existed under the stairs.

It is one of the many homes that have won the Southcott Award, a dedication to fine heritage architecture in Newfoundland.

Around the corner of the right side of the house is this beautiful curved wall. It is a very distinct element of the structure. This is the area of the house where Mary Flynn used to operate her telephone exchange.
