The Bartlett house was built sometime around 1830.Just like many of the other old homes in Brigus, the occupations of the original owners were either fishing or sealing captains. Abram Bartlett was the first owner of this house. It is thought that he bought the house from Charles Cozens. Bartlett was one of Newfoundland's most famous sealers, and lived in the house until his death in 1889. The home was then passed on to his son John who was also involved in sealing and fishing as well as Arctic exploration. The house remained in the Bartlett family until 1983. Rowena Bartlett, who was the last member of the family to live in the home and bequeathed it to Tom Burke in 1983.
The home has been lovingly restored during the last twenty years. The most recent renovation was the addition of a new cedar roof and the replacement of a dormer window that had been removed in 1953. The current owners have maintained as much of the original features as possible. The most unique feature of the home is a large open hearth. This hearth, unlike the one in the Broughton house, remains in its original condition, but is also unused.
