This wide, one room deep English style home was built in the early 1800s for Charles Cozens, a wealthy businessman. When Cozens went bankrupt, it was occupied by several other owners and tenants. In the 1930s it became thedwelling of Rev. Ezra Broughton, a well-loved and well-respected minister in the Methodist Church. He was also known for his ability as a gardener, and he gave advice to others about growing fruits, vegetables, shrubs, and flowers. The Broughton family still own the home, and it retains many of the original features.

The Broughton house was built in the mid 1820's. It was purchased by Charles Cozens from a man named Patrick Mabberline in 1848. The owner of the home today is unsure when her family moved in but she notes that theyhave been there for at least three generations. Her grandfather was in fact the minister of the Church when he lived in the home.
The house has been altered over the years but the additions have been somewhat unusual. Two gabled additions have been constructed on either side of the home which has enhanced the length of the structure. In one of the additions there is settle fireplace, one of the two left in all of Brigus. What is interesting about this fireplace is the fact that it is a very old feature but it set in the add-on rather then in the original house.
The area where the fireplace was once in full working order has also been changed. It is now only used to store antiques from the old home and to help those who visit the home remember the time of days gone by.
