The John Holland Awards Dinner is held approximately every two years to honour and celebrate achievement and volunteerism in Hamilton's African Canadian community. Named after the Reverend John C. Holland, who was
selected Man of the Year in 1954, the awards carry on Holland's spirit of commitment and giving. The Dinner, first held in 1996, is organized by the Hamilton Black History Committee, a dedicated corps of individuals trying to keep the legacy of Hamilton's Black pioneers alive.
