Shilo School #2188

The fourth one room school built in the Caroline Alberta District.
Shilo School District #2188 was established on May 26, 1910. The District received its name from a place in Scotland called Shilo. The school was built on one acre of land purchased for $2.00 from a Scottish pioneer settler, Mr. Davidson. The school did not have a well, so water was brought in from farms. The first well was drilled in the 1930's.
The first teacher was Mr. Arden Litt and the first children to attend were Fred and Hugh Devore, and Lula, Glen, and Arthur Dial.
In 1937 Shilo School became part of the Rocky Mountain School Division. As with most country schools, Shilo took only students from grades one to nine.
September, 1952, saw the children bussed to Caroline and the school closed. Shilo School was designated as a Historical Site October 3, 1987. It has been restored and remains on the original site.
