Lionel was born 5 March 1914 in West Green Harbour, Shelburne County; perished 26 March 1941. He was drowned, along with 18 others, while serving with HMCS Otter when an 0830 hours explosion and fire resulted in the naval boat sinking outside of Halifax Harbour. Lionel was the son of John MacDonald and Violet (Scott) Stuart and had six siblings: Verna, Gertrude, Alina, Pryor, Charles and Elmer. He married Delta Doris Snow of Ingomar, Shelburne County on 26 June 1937 at the Holy Cross Rectory, Lockeport. They had two children, Maxine and Larry. Lionel is commemorated on the Sailors Memorial, Panel 6, Point Pleasant Park, Halifax.

Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve. 1918-1944.Osborne Nickerson enlisted in 1941 and was stationed at HMCS Stadacona and on the HMCS Sorrel, at HMCS Niobe and on HMCS Ville de Quebec. While on duty in the Mediterranean Osborne was on action stations on 13 January 1943 when HMCS Ville de Quebec rammed and sank the German Submarine U-224. Upon return to the home port in Quebec, they received a hero's welcome. Shortly after Ville de Quebec returned to the United Kingdom. Osborne drowned 6 November in Milford Haven, Wales and was buried with full naval honours, with his shipmates as pallbearers in Milford Haven Cemetery, Section E, Grave 422, Prembrokeshire,United Kingdom.

Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve. 1919- 1941Gordon Hemeon had completed several trips across the Atlantic and was serving as an Anti-Aircraft Lewis Gunner on a British Merchant Ship SS Holystone when she was struck by enemy action and sank. The Holystone left Liverpool, England on the 9 February 1941 bound for Halifax with Convoy OB-284. On the 14th of February the convoy dispersed off the West Coast of Ireland. Sometime between the 14th and 15th February the Holystone was intercepted by U-101 and sunk by torpedo with loss of her captain, the crew of 35 , her two gunners and 2 passengers.
Gordon is commemorated at Sailors Memorial, Panel 6, Point Pleasant Park, Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve. 1907- 1943.Winslow DesChamp entered the Government Fishery Service at the age of 19 and served in it until the outbreak of war. He enlisted 12 September 1939 at Halifax and served at HMCS Stadacona, at HMCS Avalon (Newfoundland) and on HMCS Arras. He was a crew member of HMCS St. Croix for two years and was with her on July 24 1942 when she successfully torpedoed a German U-boat. While on a convoy escort in the North Atlantic the St. Croix was detached from the support group to investigate an aircraft sighting. She was hit by three torpedoes and sank in the early evening of September 20 1943. Winslow is commemorated on Panel 7, Sailors Memorial, Point Pleasant Park, Halifax.

Born 11 January 1920 in Lower Woods Harbour, Shelburne County; lost 20 September 1943 at sea. He was on convoy duty serving on the Canadian destroyer HMCS St. Croix when, after a savage battle, on the outer rim of the "Arctic Circle" she was struck by two torpedoes followed by a third which caused a terrific explosion. Within three minutes the destroyer sank. After thirteen hours in the freezing water eighty- one of her men were rescued by the British frigate Itchen. Two days later the Itchen was also torpedoed and as a result only one of the 146 crew members of the St. Croix survived.
Pete had enlisted at Halifax on 21 May 1941 and had served on the gate vessel HMCS Venture, at HMCS Protector (Sydney, N.S.) at HMCS Bytown E.(Ottawa) and at HMCS Avalon (Newfoundland) before he joined the HMCS St.Croix. His theatres of service included Canada, Newfoundland and the High Seas. Memorialized on Sailors Memorial Panel 7, Point Pleasant Park, Halifax.
