Harriet Phelps Youmans described the Boys' Tabernacle. "It was a neat little church on a street leading from Auditorium Circle to the lake shore."

The Reverend Mr. Calvert used this building primarily for boys' meetings. Later it was also used for prayer meetings and religious classes.

The Boys' Tabernacle was located close to the Auditorium but when the Temple was built, it was moved a short distance.

In 1934 it was decided to enlarge the Boys' Tabernacle. The back wall was hinged to allow the wall to be opened outwards. This allowed for the overflow congregation and provided better air circulation on hot summer days.
