In 1913, Homer Watson fought to save a piece of land called Cressman's Woods, from the fate of portable saw-mill owners.

Cressman's Woods was a favourite subject of Watson's to paint. He would walk his dog there and enjoy the old growth forest.

Today this land is called Homer Watson Park in his honour. The old road is now a bike & walking trail and the undisturbed trees remain.
